Cyberlink eventually came back and suggested I download the version from their website so it makes one think this CD version as sold is suspect. It's slow to install and often slow in use. It also seems buggy - several modules keep freezing on my XP Pro system - and Cyberlink support, while responsive, has been unhelpful. I was also very disappointed ycberlink find that the included versions of PowerDVD and PowerDirector are cut down from the full versions. Worst of all, they keep pestering you to upgrade. On the plus side, the suite has a much more attractive and consistent interface than Nero or Roxio.
There is overlap between modules, with the same function sometimes appearing in more than one, but not to the same degree as Nero and Roxio. Note that you don't get audio-editing or music-track-mixing modules though. If you already have something like Adobe Premiere Elements for movie editing, you certainly wouldn't want to switch cyberlink powerdirector 9 de & powerproducer 5 dvd free PowerDirector, but it isn't a bad tool otherwise. The only difference seems to be that Ultra offers Blu-ray playback both offer Blu-ray burning.
If you're familiar with Nero or Roxio and can live with their quirks, you should probably stick with them. I think I approached this product from the wrong direction: I already use a number of standalone programs to do what this set of applications does, but am always on the lookout for software that can do some things better.
The piwerdirector took an age on Windows XP, and the mix-up in the installation of CD key and serial number was a small annoyance. I have a large library of images, and it was for these that I hoped the software would be useful as I like to produce multimedia DVDs and slideshows for the family. Unfortunately I could never try this as the application crashed consistently trying to load in the images. For a small sample set of images I was able to load, I found the organisation to be counter intuitive and the file structure I have dr effectively jumbled, meaning I could find no images quickly or easily.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the powrdirector several times and tried selective image installs, but it really would not work.
