Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It only takes a minute to sign up. Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search. I built a PC that's been working for a while aside: mainly using a non-Windows OS, which seemed to start kernel panicing more fres. However since 0x7n whenever I select shutdown in either Win 7 partition, the machine restarts instead it shuts down in 1 out of 10 attempts.

I'm no BIOS expert, but have changed a few relevant-seeming 00x7b, and mine 0x8078b58 much like the bottom half of these ones. My first suggestion would be to update your BIOS, following the manual for your specific motherboard. I would also update the drivers for all of your devices. I have syop other suggestions for you, but this site has just about all of the ones Windows 7 stop 0x7b 0x80786b58 free could think of and provides guides to help you through many of windows 7 stop 0x7b 0x80786b58 free as windows 7 stop 0x7b 0x80786b58 free including updating driversso I would suggest going through windows 7 stop 0x7b 0x80786b58 free and seeing what you can come up with.

However shutting down either partition almost 0x7bb restarts instead, as in this unresolved SU question - ftee know if you can help with that? Sorry is this is bad form, but I'm editing my question to explain this, and that it happens with the switch to AHCI, and so unaccepting your answer.

My opening sentence included unnecessary detail relation to a www site that converts video to mp3 " that allows advertising sites to load randomly whilst it does the conversion ". Sorry for this. I understand the need for more HDD space e. Thnx also for the heads up on SSD free space needed. Keep me posted on your progress. Posted 05 November - AM.

Glad to help. Thank you for choosing Dell. Thanks gargan, all tests on HDD passed.. Thank you for the update and taking the time to voice your concerns and observations. That is really good. I would like to know: 1. I did that and it seemed to work. However two days later when I went to shut my pc down it said windows needed to do updates. Sure enough when I started it up it went back into that start up loop once and then I was able to get one.

I have been searching the net and have seen a lot of posts about this virus. I tried downloading malywarebytes as well as AVG both free editions and they did not pick up any virus on the scan.. But I'm sure that it is a virus.

Thanks hope this helps get this thing fixed. Boot from the CD and take a look at your original hard drive. See if your system is on a partition named C:. If the system is on C: and the boot files are looking for D:, you can change C: to D:. If that works I would make a image of the drive and then work on renaming the partition to C: By the way, have you tried changing the SATA cable to the port the 2nd drive was connected to after you disabled raid?

Edit: just noticed you mentioned a message about your MBR. Partition Wizard has a option to rebuild your MBR, might wan to try that first! Edited by Nimblewill, 13 July - PM. Clear the CMOS.

Clearing the CMOS could solve that problem. Update your BIOS. In some situations, an outdated BIOS could cause this error due to incompatibilities with a hard drive controller. Update the hard drive controller's firmware if possible. Just as with the BIOS in the previous step, an incompatibility could be causing the 0x7B error and a firmware update from the manufacturer may correct the problem.

Repair your Windows installation. If you've just replaced the motherboard in a computer without reinstalling Windows then this will likely fix your problem. In those cases, a clean installation of Windows should do the trick. Perform basic STOP error troubleshooting. Since most STOP errors are similarly caused, some of the suggestions might help.
